Mendedo Joins Staff of Lutheran Bible Translators

Rev. Dr. Tilahun Mendedo, former president of Concordia College Alabama, has accepted the position of Executive Development Officer with Lutheran Bible Translators. He was installed on Sunday, March 26.

Lutheran Bible Translators, an independent mission organization based in Concordia, Missouri, has been reaching people with God’s Word through their heart language for over 50 years. Four complete Bibles and 42 New Testaments have been published for language communities that never before had the Bible. Lutheran Bible Translators missionaries and international associates are currently working among 61 language communities in 13 countries.

Originally from Ethiopia, Dr. Mendedo served in multiple capacities with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY), including evangelist, youth leader, church elder, Bible school teacher, project director and curriculum advisor for the theological centers in Ethiopia. He also served as school administrator of the Theological Training Center of the EECMY-Central Ethiopia Synod in Addis Ababa, and coordinator of the Mobile Bible Schools of the Mekane Yesus.

Dr. Mendedo served as pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Mobile, Alabama, and taught as an adjunct professor of philosophy at the University of South Alabama and Spring Hill College. He has academic memberships in American Missiology Society, Evangelical Missiological Society, and the Lutheran Society for Missiology. He earned his bachelor’s degree in counseling, a master’s in systematic theology, and a PhD in missiology from Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Dr. Mendedo and his wife, Aberash Akilu, have three children. They reside in Mobile, Alabama.
