The Reverend Louis E. Nelsen, Jr.
April 20, 1918 – December 13, 2011

Pastor Louis Nelsen leaves to cherish his memory his children: Louis E. Nelsen III (with wife Donna), John Nelsen (with wife Tammy), Judith Cantrell (with husband Russell), and Robert Nelsen (with wife Robin). His wife, Doris (Pat) Miller Nelsen, and their son Paul Eugene Nelsen predeceased him.


Birthplace: New Orleans, Louisiana
Graduated: Concordia Seminary – Springfield, Illinois – 1954 / BTh
Ordained: August 1, 1954 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lily, Wisconsin
Congregations Served:
St. John’s – Lily, Wisconsin with St. Matthew’s – White Lake, Wisconsin (1954-1956)
Faith – Harahan, Louisiana (1956-1989)
Mount Olive – Metairie, Louisiana as Interim Pastor
Redeemer – Mandeville, Louisiana as Pastor Emeritus
Emeritus: August 27, 1989

Funeral Service: December 17, 2011, at Redeemer Lutheran Church – Mandeville, LA
Officiant: Rev. Aaron Stinnett of Redeemer – Mandeville, LA, and Rev. Brad Drew of Mount Olive – Metairie, LA
Preacher: Rev. Aaron Stinnett

Pastor Nelsen was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in New Orleans, LA. He served in Europe during World War II with the railroad engineers in the United States Army. It was there that he realized “that the best way to bring peace to the world was through preaching the good news of Jesus Christ.” (quote taken from the Times-Picayune August 31, 1989)
